Questions

What is an escalation day?

A day when the count of events in the whole war's record sits far above the seven days before it. It measures the size of the day in the record, not its cause.

Why only three days?

The measure is set so that a flag is rare enough to mean something.

Is 8 June an escalation day?

Not in the published count. After the published scope was narrowed to the sources the edition publishes from, 8 June fell below the flag and 27 May rose above it.

How this figure is made

The escalation measure judges each day against the seven days before it, on a robust score that ignores a few extreme days, and flags a day only when it sits far above that range, across the whole war. Methodology.
